THE BENEFITS
Cannon Hill Community Links (CHCL) offers direct benefits to the local community including:
- New sporting, social and recreational facilities including a public golf course for residents in the local area and the wider Brisbane community.
- An exclusive new residential community that will only occupy approximately 10% of the site area (12.5 hectares).
- A new network of bikeways and walkways in the area. These will link with Brisbane City Council's expanding bikeway network in the region.
- $2,000,000 to scientifically manage and enhance the site's squirrel glider habitat (including facilitating links with other local bushland areas) with both short and long term measures to provide food sources, sufficient habitat and monitoring.
- Access to more than 25 hectares of bushland and new parkland that has not previously been available for public use.
- Extensive planting of more than 150,000 native trees and shrubs to protect and improve habitat for the site's squirrel glider population and other fauna.
- Additional landscaping and planting to further enhance ecological and wetland values.
- Enhanced presentation and appeal of the local area.
- A self-funded development that does not require ratepayer contributions.
- Rehabilitation of a former refuse site to enable community access.
